Before undertaking any electrotherapy, it is wise to go through a comprehensive planning. "Planning" means to carry a process of computing treatment simulation to ensure minimal damage to normal tissues and maximum tumor kill. CyberKnife planning software is unique in the following 2 functions:

Non-isocentric treatment:
Design: Other radiotherapical systems in the market can only deliver beams through one point in the target (Isocentric), while planning the beam direction path. It limits the flexibility of the treatment beams. But non-isocentric skill highly increases the projecting angles so that Cyberknife allows beams to "shoot" at different parts of the target off center. |

A perfect treatment plan is useless unless it can be executed with perfect equipment. Cyberknife has its two main components to carry out the best result--- The paired ceiling mounted X-Ray tubes and the Synchrony "eyes".
X-Ray tubes：
To maximize the accuracy of treatment, it assists with real-time detection of targeted tumor location. X-Ray tubes allow CyberKnife to perform without the use of the screw-on rigid head-frame for head treatment, commonly used in other radiosurgery platforms. Without the screw-on head frame, the fear and pain associated with the treatment is significantly reduced.
Synchrony Respiratory Tracking System：
It monitors any motion caused by of breathing. The system can track down the motion of the tumor due to patient’s breathe. The manipulator directs the linear accelerator head to the designated coordinate and delivers beams to tumor. This can only be achieved by the radiotherapical equipment of CyberKnife at present. |
