Nutrition Counseling
and Dietetic Service
A good diet that provides adequate nutrition is a vital
element in the Adventist Total Health concept. The services
provided by the Nutrition counseling and Dietetic Service
in Hong Kong Adventist Hospital focus on the improving
the well-being of clients by:
1. Helping individuals to overcome specific problems
with eating and nutrition.
2. Providing information to service users, their carers,
and staff about food, nutrition and health.
3. Providing training for staff in nutrition and health.
4. Working with the hospital catering service to ensure
it meets agreed standards for nutrition.
Inpatients can make use of our service by calling ext.
8742 and filling up a referral form. A dietitian will
arrange to visit the in the ward. We also accept referrals
on an out-patient basis.

This process incorporates
an evaluation of how well nourished a person is
and the nutritional requirements of that person
in the context of their medical problems. Any
deficiency in nutrient intake relative to recommended
dietary intake can be identified.

| Preventive Nutrition Counseling

People at risk of disease or the complications
of disease are advised on diet related prevention.
We provide nutritional counseling services on
general healthy eating habits for adults and children,
as well as providing guidance on a healthy vegetarian
diet.

| Provision of Therapeutic Diet |
 |
| Special diets can be constructed to help patients
with digestive problems such as gastric and duodenal
ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome or patients with
metabolic diseases such as gout and diabetes. Patients
suffering from hypertension, raised cholesterol
and food allergies may also find the service indispensable.
