The Hong Kong Heart Center has invested in a full range
of sophisticated diagnostic equipment for cardiac patients.
Should a test become necessary, staff of the Hong Kong
Heart Center would help you arrange an appointment as
soon as practicable. Talk with us if you need more information
on any of our facilities.
This is a special ultrasound technique used to
provide 2-dimensional image of the carotid arteries
(blood vessels supplying the brain) to detect
narrowing, blockage, or abnormal blood flow.
Doppler is an ultrasound technique that can detect
abnormal blood flow within and across the heart¡¦s
chambers. Color Doppler is an enhanced form of
Doppler echocardiography where different colors
are used to designate the direction of blood flow.
Our ultrafast CT scans (MDCT) can take multiple
images of the heart in the split second of a single
heartbeat, accurately diagnosing early coronary
artery diseases before symptoms occur. The scanner
can also detect minute amounts of calcium that
are present in atherosclerotic plagues. The result
is conveniently quantified into an index called
the calcium score, which is an independent risk
factor.
The Holter monitor is a small, portable, battery-powered
ECG machine used to record the heart¡¦s electrical
activity for a period of 24 hours or longer.
A stress echocardiogram is a diagnostic procedure
where ultrasound examination of the heart is performed
after exercise, or when the heart is stimulated
by drugs.
ECG is recorded when running on a treadmill.
Breathing and blood pressure rates are also monitored.
The test may also determine the safe level of
exercise following a heart attack or heart surgery.
