Half a Century of Caring: Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Stubbs Road 55th Anniversary Celebration
Since its foundation in 1971, Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Stubbs Road has been dedicated to the mission of "continuing the healing ministry of Christ," committed to providing high-quality and diversified medical services to the people of Hong Kong.
Looking back on 55 years of development, we have grown alongside the Hong Kong community, reaching significant milestones at different stages. In 1971, the hospital was officially established on Stubbs Road, marking the beginning of our pledge to safeguard the health of the public. In 1985, we expanded our clinical services and facilities by establishing the Hong Kong Heart Center to meet the growing healthcare needs. In 2012, we continued to introduce advanced medical equipment and enhance specialist services, with the addition of a new floor to the main building for operating theatres and day-care units, as well as the expansion of the Endoscopy Centre, all aimed at elevating clinical treatment and care quality.
Entering 2026, we are driving further medical innovation by combining our clinical expertise with cutting-edge technology to deliver more precise and safer diagnostic and treatment options for patients. We have introduced the Greater China region's first internationally acclaimed da Vinci 5 surgical system and established the city's first off-campus robotic surgery outpatient center in the heart of Central, dedicated to providing timely and appropriate medical care to our patients.
Looking ahead, we will continue to advance with the times, confronting evolving challenges by adopting state-of-the-art medical equipment and clinical technologies, while continually enhancing our services to contribute even more to the health and well-being of the community.
Dr. Harry Willis Miller secured a land grant from the Government for building the second hospital in Stubbs Road.
Tsuen Wan Adventist Hospital (currently known as “Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Tsuen Wan”) opened for operation.
The groundbreaking ceremony for Hong Kong Adventist Hospital (currently known as “Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Stubbs Road”) was held.
Dr Chan Shun, founder of Crocodile Garments Limited, contributed HK$1 million for building the hospital.
Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Stubbs Road opened.
La Rue Building was completed for staff accommodation.
The intensive care unit was set up.
The management was committed to the development of clinical cardiology. Doctors and nurses were sent to the US to receive the training on surgical specialties and cardiology.
Hong Kong Heart Center opened.
In striving for the proactive development of specialty services, the Nuclear Medicine Center, MRI Center, Skin Laser Center, Sleep Disorder Center, Ophthalmology Center, Hearing Center and Hemodialysis Center.
The Cyberknife Center opened.
An additional floor was built on top of the main block to accommodate an operating room, short stay unit, in addition to the expansion of the Endoscopy Center. The operating room team was sent overseas to receive the training on da Vinci Si HD Surgical System.
The Tomo Therapy was introduced.
The opening ceremony for Hong Kong Adventist Hospital Oncology Center and Minimally Invasive Surgery Center was held with Dr. Ko Wing-Man, the-then Secretary for Food and Health as the officiating guest.
The Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Center was set up.
Adventist Arrhythmia Center was set up.
Adventist Medical Center was set up in Causeway Bay.
The latest generation of the O-arm O2 imaging system was introduced.
The Hybrid Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Operating Room opened while the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic Centre was set up.
The “24/7 Urgent Care Services” under the supervision of emergency medicine or intensive care doctors was newly installed.
The Heart Center was moved to the first floor where it underwent full renovation.
The Adventist Medical Center in Taikoo Place was set up.
The hospital performs Hong Kong's first procedure using the Transcatheter Bicaval Valve System in September.
The new Rehabilitation Center is opened in May.
The hospital introduces a groundbreaking technique called "Pulsed Field Ablation" (PFA), providing a safer and more effective treatment option for patients with atrial fibrillation in October.
The new U700 ward service commences in September.
The hospital introduces the revolutionary 4D ICE for treating patients with structural heart disease in September.
The newly renovated Unit 500 ward officially begins services.
The hospital receives accreditation by the global leader in healthcare accreditation, Joint Commission International, for the third time and earns the Gold Seal of Approval for the second time in November.
The new Da Vinci Xi robotic system commences service in November.
Hong Kong Adventist Hospital collaborates with Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital and Shenzhen Hengsheng Hospital to hold the "Collaborative Hospital" plaque unveiling ceremony in November.
